The Grapes & Hops Stage features Wine & Beer Tasting & Food Pairing Seminars at the Fraser Valley Food Show.

The show features over 20 boutique wineries and micro breweries from around the Fraser Valley such as Old Yale, Mission Springs, Raven’s, Old Abby micro breweries and Mt. Lehman, Campbell’s Gold, View and Monte Creek Ranch wineries, all sampling their artisan wines and beers.

Wine Aficionado Kathleen Rake and Beer Expert Rick Mohabir will be presenting all three days a series of seminars on everything to do with tasting, evaluating and pairing food with beer and wine.  Mixologists Lauren Mote and Jonathan Chovancek will also be presenting the art of exotic cocktail creation on Sunday afternoon.


Kathleen Rake – wine expert

Kathleen Rake is a perpetual student of wine, who carries the internationally recognized WSET Advanced certification. She considers herself to be extremely lucky because she’s managed to marry her decades-long love affair with wine to her craft—writing. You can read Kathleen’s wine-soaked musings at her blog,  Kathleen lives by the mantra: “I seek the perfect glass of wine, but hope I never find it.”

Rick Mohabir – Beer Expert

Rick loves tasting beer. He brings a wealth of experience to the students in the class. He is the Just Here For The Beer brewing expert and can tell you all you need to know about the different types of beer from around the world. Rick also brings a fun aspect to the class by teaching various drinking games from around the world. Rick has his business diploma and loves looking at the marketing aspects of the beer industry. He is the company director of operations for the special events and festivals. Rick is a Just Here For The Beer owner, beer expert, instructor, marketing expert, and party host.

Fraser Valley Food + Gluten-Free Living Show Launches April 1st

The Fraser Valley Food Show is showcasing the magic of food and cooking at the Tradex Exhibition Centre in Abbotsford, BC, April 1 – 3, 2016. Taste and purchase food from local artisan growers & producers and condiments, spices and a variety of hard to find food and beverage products. Enjoy the celebrity chef demonstrations, sausage making competitions, cheese and wine seminars, Bite of the Valley participating restaurants and the Grapes and Hops wine/beer/spirits tasting pavilion. Also, don’t miss two brand new areas on the show floor: The Edible Garden and the Spring Craft Market.

Bob Blumer, Food Network’s Surreal Gourmet and host of The World’s Weirdest Restaurants is this years headliner celebrity chef on the Celebrity Cooking Stage.

Chef Hidekazu Tojo, Vancouver’s celebrated owner/chef of Tojo’s Japanese Restaurant will be joining Bob blumer as headliner on the Celebrity Cooking Stage along with numerous other chefs and presenters.

Come for lunch and stay for dinner! The Fraser Valley Food Show presents the Bite of the Valley Restaurant Pavilion. The chefs of favourite restaurants from in and around the Valley will serve up appetizer portions of their signature recipes. For a nominal charge ($2-$6) per item, visitors are able to savour the flavours of numerous eateries.

Beer, wine and spirits will be well represented in the Beer, Wine & Spirits Tasting Pavilion where visitors can sip and taste a wide selection of beverages. The Grapes and Hops Stage will feature presentations and tastings by numerous local and regional beer and wine experts. There will be an on-site liquor store selling bottles of the products being sampled by the agents.

While at the Fraser Valley Food Show, visitors will also enjoy shopping in the marketplace of over 100 exhibit booths. Producers, manufacturers, retailers and food artisans will showcase a wide assortment of unique products for eating, drinking, cooking, entertaining, and outfitting a kitchen. Visitors to the Fraser Valley Food Show will especially enjoy the variety of locally grown and produced specialty food items that are not usually found in grocery stores and supermarkets. The Fraser Valley Food Show is a showcase for Gluten-Free foods in the  Gluten-Free Living Show,  in response to the overwhelming number of people seeking gluten-free products.

The 4th Great Canadian Sausage Making Competition takes centre stage at the Fraser Valley Food Show again on April 2nd. Dozens of professional sausage makers from all over the province will have well over a hundred sausage entries in nineteen categories ranging from chorizo to bratwurst. BC Pork and Passion For Pork present the BC Pork Butcher Showcase Stage, where butchers from all over BC will demonstrate the art of meat cutting, sausage making, knife skills, and more.  Hourly presentations will take place throughout the weekend. The Spring Craft Market featuring a selection of hand crafted items to accent both your indoor and outdoor entertaining needs. With the fresh blooms of spring everywhere, redecorate you home and garden with the unique artisan crafts offered for sale by local artisans.
